Lots of us played tennis at the Elmdale Tennis Club just on the corner of the Fisher Park grounds.
Where are you folks? Gord Lang, Neil Longhurst, Dan Sigler, Ken McGillvary oh, wait a minute - they'll be in the 1960's group - I'll put something in that forum. But from our years: Rob Beattie, Mike Norman, Lyndsday Hull, Brian Donnelly Susan Greenberg, Margaret Thorp, Marsh Birchard, Dave McCann, Deb Sigler, Nancy Gilcrest, Jeremey Jones, aaarh - and a whole bunch of faces I can't put names to...
I moved to France nearly 3 years ago and the village tennis club is right across the street. After virtually no tennis at all for 25 years I've tried to pick it up again (squash strokes are interfering just a tiny bit). Bought my first raquet not made of wood! Started playing for the village team, but very sporatically. I even had to look up the rules for a tie-breaker as it was new when I was a junior and at that time I had only ever played 9-point tiebreaks (I remember losing 5-4 in a tie break once!) I always figured tennis was a fun sport but not much exercise. Well, I played a team match on Saturday (lost 6-1 3-6 6-4 to a kid ranked above me, and lost a doubles in straight sets against much better players). And man was I sore on Sunday. And Monday. And Today. OK, I hadn't played in a few months but ouch!
Even so, I could be convinced to hit the ball around ... anyone interested on begging some court time on the clay at Elmdale on Saturday morning (June 23)??
P.S. I've got stories of a lot of the pranks we got up to at the club. If someone replies to this, I'll bore you with some of them.

My memory has slowly dug out names for two familiar faces (in the 1970's) at the Elmdale Tennis Club. I remember Yusef Osman being there, and particularly Scott McAdam spent a lot of time down there.
Of all the pranks, the one I seem to recall the most is filling a garbage bag with water and standing with it on the roof of the clubhouse waiting for Susan Greenberg to come off court (we lured her into the clubhouse area with a fake phone call) so we could dump our nuke-sized water bomb on her. Everything went perfectly except we MISSED - about 1 yard off! I was trying to remember my fellow partners in crime but the only person I can definitely remember being there was Marsh Birchard who is cleared because he had been on court with Susan playing doubles. Anyway, no one got hurt, or even seriously wet.
I finally bought my first non-wooden racquet 2 years ago and was hoping to use it back at Elmdale on Saturday morning (June 23). I guess it'll just be me using the practice wall...

hey Rolf. I recall getting lost with you at some (scout?) camp somewhere, and you leading the way back to civilization; maybe summer '69 or '70 or 71
I remember winning the junior house league singles final 15-13 (one set - no tie breaker) at Elmdale in '73.
Have since had (ski) ACL reconstruction on right knee in '83, and played tennis 2-3 times/wk. (best 2/3 sets) for the last 25 years . As well, I have done some serious hiking, living in Calgary, and have just over-compensated in geneal. Those factors I believe caused my recent left hip replacement. If only I could have played my entire tennis career on the easy-slidin' clay of Elmdale Tennis Club, I might still be walking on my original dealer parts.
Have had knee advice from Rob Beattie (Vermont Orth.Surgeon), via Tom Scobie, the only Fisher person I have kept in contact with - now in Panama), Tom just told me of this site.
I come home annually now for the Bluesfest, but not until June 30 this year, so will miss the reunion unfortunately.
Cheers, Jeff

Hi Jeff. I've been going through my old photos, and I have several of you playing volleyball. It's not surprising you wrecked your ACL the way you look in the volleyball. I'll be bringing a bunch of scanned photos ona DVD. Hope to see you there. Lyndsay

Seeing those names brought a flood of memories. I went to Fisher for one year before moving to Vancouver. Tom Scobie, Sandy Macpherson, Paul Youldon and I were inseperable for many years. Margaret Thorpe one of my first loves. I currently live in Nelson BC where I have retired

Bill Harbord. I remember you from Connaught days. And I have this weird memory that when the Fisher band was out in Vancouver in about 1971, that you met up with some of us (or is this my imagination?). Anyway, three of those four classmates you mention were in my Conaught class - write me if you want contact information. I think Sandy might have information about Paul Y ("Goldie").

Hi, Rolf, long time! Spotted this when I googled myself to find out what was there. Umm, yeah, I recognize a few names on there! Like you, Marsh, Rob, Lyndsay, Gord Laing, Marg Thorp, Susan Greenberg, Bob Lister, Dan Sigler...
I continued playing competitive tennis until about age 35, then switched to squash after two elbow operations for bone spurs. Got pretty good in squash. Then switched to running when living in Spain around 1995 -- not much local competition in squash. Still run a lot, and occasionally play tennis. My wife Janice is a long-time tennis pro, teaching only occasionally now but still winning a few "old-ladies" tournaments. We live in Florida, but spend a lot of time in NW Montana where I'm developing a golf-centered residential development.
